The Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival has announced that the Best Film award has gone to A Prophet / Un Prophète showing in the Preview section of the French Film Festival UK in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester.

The new award called The Star of London Award for Best Film is In recognition of "original, intelligent and distinctive filmmaking." It was bestowed by an international jury chaired by Anjelica Huston and fellow jurors John Akomfrah, Jarvis Cocker, Mathieu Kassovitz, Charlotte Rampling and Iain Softley.

On behalf of the jury Anjelica Huston said in presenting the prize to film-maker Jacques Audiard: “A masterpiece: Un Prophète has the ambition, purity of vision and clarity of purpose to make it an instant classic. With seamless and imaginative story-telling, superb performances and universal themes, Jacques Audiard has made a perfect film.”
The film already has been garlanded at the Cannes Film Festival where it received the Grand Prix earlier this year.

VANILLE Selected To Screen at UK French Film Festival 2009

Dundonian Creative Arts Practitioner and EIFF 2009 award winning Trailblazer, Shehzad Afzal who recently was awarded a Master of Arts with Distinction in Screen Project Development, from Edinburgh Skillset Screen and Media Academy, and Mark Sloss who graduated with a Master of Arts in Film from Screen Academy Wales are having their joint collaboration film venture, Vanille premiere as part of the UK French Film Festival. This is the first ever Skillset Screen Academy Network collaboration of it's kind in the UK. Vanille will screen this November and December throughout the UK at various cinema venues, and will open in front of French / Belgium feature film, Eldorado.

In an unprecedented and remarkable move, the innovatively produced short film, Vanille, has been selected to be included in the UK French Film Festival and to represent the French Film Industry. After gaining some seed funding and support from Edinburgh Skillset Screen and Media Academy and Skillset Screen Academy Wales, the project was progressed with the help of the French film industry, who helped to transfer the film production to Paris.
